Located just outside of Grand Bend, Ontario on the shores of Lake Huron is the Pinery Provincial Park, a environmental class park dedicated to the preservation of the largest collection of oak savanna and beach dunes. Juniper Trees are also found growing in the sand dunes and often get shifted with the sand as some are fallen and get buried with branches becoming new trees as they are connected underground. The 6,330 acre park was founded in 1957 after a land purchase from the Canada Company and it was expanded in 1966. The park got its name, Pinery, by the large number of red and white pine trees that were planted in the park to coincide with the oak savanna. Oak trees here depend on and share the deep underground waters with the surface plants much like Juniper Trees. The Pinery is a popular park for campers across Southwestern Ontario.
