About Jay Smith

Jay Smith My name is Jay Smith and I am working in my spare time as a freelance photographer based in Ontario, Canada. I have been into photography for over 10 years, but I have been aggressively improving my skills and knowledge of photography and cameras and putting it to use over the last two years. A majority of my work focuses around the rust belt cities of Detroit, Michigan and Buffalo, New York. Both cities have historically suffered through hard economic times including job and population loss as well as high crime and poverty. But over the last ten years, both cities have experienced exciting changes and renaissances and I am proud to capture them. At first I used a simple point-and-shoot camera to capture the good and the bad side in both cities and what they have to offer. Now with a DSLR, I continue to capture the mostly good side in Buffalo and Detroit and combine it with some creativity, uniqueness, and editing to make each picture into a work of art.

I also enjoy taking pictures while I am travelling. I have also travelled extensively from the Mountains of Vancouver, British Columbia to the historic seaport of Boston, Massachusetts. I am always inspired to use my camera to capture the cherished moments that make my trips so memorable and to share them with you.

I have founded RJSBird Photography on Instagram and Facebook in 2014 and this website, www.rjsbirdphotography.com, in 2016 as a portfolio and showcase for my work.

You may contact me by email, rjsbird53@gmail.com to inquire about prints or if you have any more questions about my work.

I sincerely hope you enjoy my galleries and thanks for looking!
